Oyster Care’s Cooking Day Program offers a hands-on, fun-filled experience in the kitchen — blending culinary skill-building, personalised guidance, and meaningful social connections. It’s all about discovering new tastes, making friends, and fostering independence while supporting your NDIS goals in confidence, life skills, and community participation.

Oyster Care’s Cooking Day Program offers more than just a culinary experience—it provides a fun-filled, hands-on journey where participants build practical skills and meaningful social connections. Moreover, it’s a space where individuals can grow their confidence, enhance their independence, and achieve their NDIS goals.
Whether you’re kneading dough, chopping fresh veggies, or laughing over a shared meal, each session is an opportunity to explore new flavors and friendships. In addition, the program encourages participants to engage in teamwork while mastering essential life skills.
Most importantly, every activity is designed with purpose: from learning kitchen safety and meal planning to making healthy choices that last a lifetime. As a result, participants leave each session with more than just a delicious dish—they walk away with a stronger sense of self and community.
Oyster Care’s Cooking Day Program stands out because it transforms everyday kitchen tasks into powerful life lessons. Instead of traditional classroom learning, participants actively engage in cooking, making it easier to retain skills like recipe-following, time management, and safe food handling.
Additionally, the program fosters emotional and social growth. With caring guidance from support workers, participants collaborate, express themselves creatively, and bond over shared achievements. Not only does this strengthen their cooking skills, but it also boosts their self-esteem and sense of belonging.
In short, it’s more than cooking—it’s a celebration of growth, joy, and connection!

Builds Everyday Life Skills:Participants learn meal preparation, kitchen safety, and time management. As they practice these tasks regularly, they gain the tools for daily independence.
Boosts Confidence & Self-Esteem: Completing a recipe from start to finish brings a sense of pride. With each success, participants become more confident in their abilities.
Promotes Healthy Habits:Participants gain nutritional knowledge and learn to make mindful food choices. In the long run, these habits contribute to lasting well-being.

Ethan (not his real name) joined the Cooking Day Program feeling nervous and hesitant about trying new activities. Through friendly guidance and fun cooking sessions, he built confidence, connected with others, and uncovered a passion for cooking. Now, Ethan encourages others to take that first step and discover their own abilities in the kitchen.
Before I joined the Cooking Day Program, I was nervous about trying something new. I wasn’t sure if cooking was for me or if I could keep up with others. But from the very first session, I felt welcomed and supported. The smells, the colors, the sounds of the kitchen—it all sparked something inside me. I learned how to chop, mix, and create meals I never thought I could make. More than that, I found joy in sharing food and laughter with others. Each time I cooked, my confidence grew, and I realized this program was helping me build independence and friendships I truly cherish. Cooking isn’t just about food anymore—it’s about discovering my own strength and happiness.
